Careers at Hope Harbour

Support work, done properly.

Paid at or above the SCHADS award, rostered with travel time actually factored in, and never sent into a shift without a handover.

What we offer

The things support workers actually leave over.

We have heard the same complaints from enough workers to build around them.

  • Travel time and kilometres paid. Between consecutive shifts, at the award rate. Not absorbed into your own time.
  • Regular participants. We build small teams around each person, so you get to know them rather than reading a support plan in the driveway.
  • Real handovers. You will never walk into a first shift without knowing the routine, the risks and what the person actually wants.
  • Someone answers the phone. A 24/7 on-call coordinator for when a shift goes sideways at 9pm on a Sunday.
  • Paid induction and training. Including your NDIS Worker Orientation Module and first aid renewals.
  • Rosters you can plan a life around. Published ahead, and we do not change them without asking you.
  • A path upward. High-intensity sign-offs, SIL house leadership and coordination roles, supported and paid for.
  • Superannuation and leave entitlements. Correctly calculated, every time, including casual loading where it applies.

Being straight with you

Support work is genuinely hard. It is physical, it is emotionally demanding, and some shifts are difficult in ways that stay with you.

What it is not, if it is done properly, is chaotic. Most of what makes this job unbearable is bad rostering, poor communication and being left alone with a situation you were not prepared for. Those are the provider's failures, not yours, and they are what we are trying to get right.

If you are considering disability support work for the first time, ring us and ask what a normal week looks like. We will tell you honestly.

Open roles

Where we are hiring.

One open role at the moment. We recruit continuously, so if the timing is not right today, send an expression of interest and we will come back to you when something opens.

Casual, across Melbourne

Disability Support Worker

Open now

The core role, and the only one we are recruiting for right now. In-home personal care and daily living support, plus getting participants out into their community. Regular shifts with regular participants wherever we can, rather than a churn of one-off work.

What we are looking for

  • Certificate III in Individual Support, or working toward it
  • Own car and a full Victorian licence strongly preferred
  • Weekend and evening availability valued
  • NDIS Worker Screening Check, or willing to apply (it is free)
  • Experience welcome but not essential if the attitude is right

About you

So we can match you to nearby participants.

Genuinely valuable to us. Many participants would rather be supported in their first language.

The role

Days, times, and whether you can do weekends, evenings, sleepovers or school holidays.

Do you have the right to work in Australia? (required)

Checks and clearances

Not having these yet does not rule you out. We will tell you exactly what to apply for, and the NDIS Worker Screening Check is free for people applying to work with a registered provider.

Your experience

Paid or unpaid. Supporting a family member counts, and so does anything that taught you to be patient and reliable.

Optional, and we do read them.

Consent

We read every application and aim to reply within five business days.
